Use one load of the self-loading dropper on cleansed, toned skin, morning and night. That covers face and neck. Moisturizer goes on once the serum has absorbed, and in the morning sunscreen goes over that.
The bottle has no pump, so there’s no pump count to remember. One dropper load is one dose.
Genifique Ultimate and the Sensitive Dual Concentrate don’t follow quite the same rules. Ultimate takes a full dropper after toner or essence. The Sensitive Dual Concentrate is a night serum, and it needs a push and twist to activate before first use.
How to apply Lancome Advanced Genifique serum, step by step
Apply it to clean skin and work from the center of the face outward.
- Cleanse your face, then tone if toner is part of your routine.
- Load the dropper and release one dose into your palm (the cap action is covered in the next section).
- Spread it across forehead, cheeks and chin in long strokes, working from the center of the face outward.
- Continue down the neck, then press the serum in evenly, with light but firm pressure, until it absorbs.
- Apply moisturizer, and sunscreen as the last step in the morning.
The long strokes come from Lancome’s own product copy (LookFantastic and Brown Thomas listings), and the press-in finish comes from the David Jones listing.
Lancome’s copy says clean, dry skin. Adore Beauty’s guide says slightly damp skin instead. I’d go with the brand instruction, since damp application is a retailer habit and not a Lancome step.
The dose is meant to cover the neck as well, so stopping at the jawline leaves it out.
For a midday refresh, Lancome’s EU instructions suggest pressing a little onto chin, cheeks and forehead at any time of day.
How much serum is one dose, and which bottle size fits?
Each application takes one load of the self-loading dropper. Retailer copy of Lancome’s instructions says it dispenses the right amount for one application, and Adore Beauty’s guide says one load covers face, neck and decolletage.
Listings describe the cap two ways. Brown Thomas and Kohl’s say you twist it, which loads the dropper. LookFantastic’s 100 ml EU listing and a South African retailer describe a button on top of the cap that releases the serum into your palm. Follow whatever is printed on your own bottle.
Sizes shift by market and retailer:
- In the United States it comes in 1 oz, 1.7 oz, 2.5 oz and 3.4 oz, and Sephora US lists the 3.4 oz / 100 ml bottle as its standard size.
- Australia gets 30 ml and 50 ml, plus 75 ml and 115 ml listings (Adore Beauty).
- UK and European listings show 30 ml, 50 ml, 100 ml and 115 ml (LookFantastic and Galaxus).
- In Canada, Jean Coutu sells 75 ml, and Lancome.ca’s comparison table shows 100 ml.

Where does Lancome Advanced Genifique serum go in a skincare routine?
After cleanser and toner, before moisturizer and sunscreen. Lancome calls it the first step, and its own sets put eye cream after it.
Lancome’s retail copy (Macy’s, Kohl’s, Mecca) and the Adore Beauty guide disagree on two of three steps.

Cleansing, toner and eye care before the serum
Cleanser comes first, then toner, then an essence if you use one. Lancome’s Singapore site splits these into stages. Toner closes the cleansing step, the essence opens treatment, and the serum follows the essence.
That is where Lancome Clarifique Dual Essence fits. Lancome tells users to apply it after cleansing and before the Genifique serum.
Community routines follow the same order. Skinsort’s data (updated November 2025) puts the serum most often at step 4, with Lancome’s eye products later at steps 6 to 9.
So “first step” means the first treatment step, not literally step one.
If you use Lancome’s own Genifique eye products, follow Lancome’s order and apply the serum first. Adore Beauty’s before-the-serum placement is the outlier among the sources retrieved.
Moisturizer and sunscreen after
Moisturizer follows the serum, as both Lancome’s EU instructions and the Adore Beauty guide state. In the morning that means moisturizer, then sunscreen as the last skincare step. In the evening it’s moisturizer or a night cream, and no sunscreen.
The ingredient list shows no UV filters, so the serum does not replace sunscreen. The American Academy of Dermatology (updated August 2025) recommends SPF 30 or higher with broad-spectrum, water-resistant coverage, applied before going outdoors because it takes about 15 minutes to absorb and protect.
Makeup goes on after these layers, and the same order carries over to prepping skin before makeup.
Morning, night or both: how often to use it and when results show
Lancome’s instruction is twice a day, morning and evening. Daily use is normal, and the brand reports first visible changes from about one week.
Morning and evening use
Lancome USA and Lancome Canada both say to use it morning and night. Skinsort’s community data (November 2025) tells a different story, with 94% of routines using it every day but only 27% using it in both the morning and evening.
Adore Beauty’s guide sits in between: morning or night, or both. Once a day works fine as a routine, though it isn’t the labeled one.
The advice has also changed over time. In 2009 a Lancome skincare expert told beaut.ie to use the original Genifique morning and night, but only once at night if a day serum was already in the routine.
Current brand copy drops that exception. It puts the serum first and tells you to apply other targeted serums after it.
How long results take
Lancome reports visible radiance within seven days. The evidence comes in two kinds, and they carry different weight.
On Lancome’s product pages (as of October 2026), 85% of 34 women said skin looked more radiant after 1 week, a self-assessment. A 4-week consumer study of 1,127 women had 89% agreeing their skin looked more radiant after 1 week, also self-assessed.
The measured number is the 8-week clinical grading across 34 women. Radiance is up +52% on many market pages, but +27% on the current US pages (Lancome USA, Sephora and Kohl’s).
The one-week numbers are self-reported, and the measured gain is the 8-week one. All of them come from Lancome itself, not an independent trial, and the radiance figure differs between market versions of the page, so quote the one on your own market’s page.
Plan on eight weeks before judging measured changes such as wrinkles, since that is the window the clinical data covers.
Lancome’s Hong Kong footnotes size a 50 ml bottle at about eight weeks of twice-daily use, one dropper at a time. Using it once a day departs from the labeled routine, so the brand’s eight-week figures don’t map cleanly onto it.
What the key ingredients do and why the brand puts the serum first
Lancome’s reason for the first-step slot is that the serum supports absorption of the products applied after it. The formula itself leans on bifida ferment lysate, which sits right after water on the list.
That lysate is made of inactivated bacterial fractions and is sold as the barrier ingredient (the US page calls it Bifidus Prebiotic 10%). Hyaluronic acid appears as sodium hyaluronate, a humectant that supports hydration, per LookFantastic’s product copy. Then there’s ascorbyl glucoside, which Lancome labels Vitamin Cg. It is a stable vitamin C derivative that skin enzymes convert into ascorbic acid.
The evidence for the lysate class is real but indirect. A clinical trial in Experimental Dermatology (Gueniche et al., 2010) found that a cream with a Bifidobacterium longum lysate lowered skin sensitivity on a lactic acid stinging test.
Lancome does not say its lysate matches the trial’s preparation, so the trial supports the ingredient class and not this formula.
Ascorbyl glucoside has firmer data. A December 2021 skin-model study found that a 1.8% formulation of it (listed there as ascorbic acid 2-glucoside) gave antioxidant protection comparable to a 15% ascorbic acid formulation, because skin converts it to ascorbic acid.
Lancome does not publish the percentage in this serum, so treat the study as proof of mechanism, not of dose.
Ingredient lists differ between listings, which is annoying. The Skinsort UK entry and a LookFantastic EU set listing include Lactobacillus, mannose and tocopherol, while the Kohl’s US page and a LookFantastic UK set listing do not. Read the list on your own box.
Lancome’s one-application claim is a stress test. Its Australian copy cites 38.9% recovery against 21.9% on bare skin after skin aggression (instrumental test, David Jones listing), which works out to the +77% faster recovery Lancome’s Canadian page states. Its UAE copy calls a one-drop test 2x faster microbiome recovery.
Both measure recovery after an induced insult. They describe how skin bounces back, not how it looks on an ordinary day.
Which actives can you layer with Lancome Advanced Genifique serum?
Lancome Australia’s layering guide says vitamin C, niacinamide and hyaluronic acid can strengthen each other when combined correctly, and advises introducing each serum slowly. Its published guidance covers those three, not retinol.

The serum already delivers a vitamin C derivative, so a separate vitamin C serum doubles up on the same job. Keep one vitamin C step unless you have a reason for two.
Sources disagree on retinol order. Lancome’s retail copy puts Genifique ahead of any targeted serum, while Biossance’s dermatologist guide puts a retinol serum right after cleansing and eye cream.
The cleanest split is Genifique in the morning and retinol at night. That departs from the twice-daily label, so it’s your call.
The Clarifique Dual Essence lists lactic, glycolic, salicylic and phytic acids (Lancome’s ingredient listing). Lancome’s own routine puts that acid step before the serum, so the serum acts as the buffer and not the first treatment.
Layering goes wrong when two new actives start in the same week. Add one at a time, and any reaction stays traceable.
When Lancome Advanced Genifique serum is a poor fit
Skip it, or patch test first, if your skin reacts to fragrance or alcohol. Lancome lists dry, oily, combination, normal and sensitive skin as suitable (Galaxus data for the 100 ml bottle), but the ingredient list carries both.
Ingredient triggers
Alcohol denat. is fourth on the UK and Kohl’s lists, after water, bifida ferment lysate and glycerin. Fragrance shows up as parfum, plus limonene and citronellol, both EU-declared fragrance allergens.
Lancome calls the serum suitable for sensitive skin, yet the UK listing of even the Sensitive Dual Concentrate base ends with parfum (Lancome Singapore calls that product fragrance-free, so check your own box).
The EU rule shows what a listing actually tells you. Under the EU cosmetics rules, as updated by Commission Regulation (EU) 2023/1545 (July 2023), limonene and citronellol must be declared above 0.001% in leave-on products, so their presence on the list means the amount is over that threshold and nothing more precise.
The American Academy of Dermatology advises people whose skin reacts to fragrance to choose products labeled fragrance free. It also warns that “unscented” products can still contain fragrance-related ingredients.
Patch test
- Pick a small test spot of skin.
- Apply the serum there twice daily for 7 to 10 days, in your normal amount.
- Leave it on as long as you normally would.
- If the spot stays free of redness, itching and swelling, start using it on your face.
- If a reaction appears, wash it off and stop.
This is the American Academy of Dermatology’s method (page updated August 2021). Twice daily mirrors Lancome’s own morning-and-evening instruction, so the test copies the real routine.
If a reaction has no obvious cause, the Academy says you may need a medical patch test to find the trigger.
Advanced Genifique, Genifique Ultimate and the Sensitive Dual Concentrate: do the instructions change?
Yes, slightly. Genifique Ultimate keeps the morning-and-night routine with one full dropper after toner or essence, while the Sensitive Dual Concentrate is a night serum you activate once.

Sources conflict on what Ultimate adds. Global Cosmetic Industry’s launch coverage said Ultimate has the same ingredients as Advanced Genifique plus Beta-Glucan-CM. Lancome’s own key-ingredient comparison lists Vitamin Cg only under Advanced Genifique, and the Ultimate INCI list carries no alcohol denat. or ascorbyl glucoside.
Lancome’s pack copy claims 33% less visible redness after one bottle of Ultimate.
Ultimate comes in a refillable 50 ml bottle, and as of October 2026 Adore Beauty lists a 50 ml refill cartridge that fits only that bottle.
Pick by reason, not by name. Stay with Advanced Genifique if it already suits your skin. Ultimate makes sense if alcohol denat. is what bothers you, or if you want a refill. The Sensitive Dual Concentrate only works as a night step.
Ultimate still lists fragrance, so the patch test above applies to it too.
Lancome Advanced Genifique Serum FAQ
Can you use it around the eyes or on the lips?
Not around the eyes by the brand’s instructions. Lancome’s US instructions cover forehead, cheeks, chin and neck, while the UK instructions reproduced by LookFantastic finish with a stroke across the upper and lower lip. Lancome sells separate eye products for the eye contour.
The Zoe Report’s editors and a MECCA listing also pat it on the lips under lipstick, but the formula contains alcohol denat. and fragrance, so patch test first.
Can it replace a moisturizer?
Not as a rule. Lancome’s instructions follow the serum with a moisturizer, and LookFantastic’s EU copy says to finish with a face cream. Notino’s copy says it can stand in for a moisturizer while travelling, which is a retailer tip and not a Lancome step.
Lancome sells a Genifique day cream and a Barrier Night Cream for that step.
Is it fine to wear under makeup?
Yes, as part of the base. Serum goes on first, then moisturizer, then sunscreen in the morning, and makeup last.
LookFantastic’s EU copy calls the texture lightweight and fast-absorbing, which suits that layering.
Does it work with the Hydrogel Melting Mask?
Yes. Adore Beauty’s guide lists the Advanced Genifique Hydrogel Melting Mask as a companion and says to apply it at least 30 minutes before makeup.
No source gives a serum-and-mask order, so follow the mask’s own pack directions.
What to Adjust First When Results Stall
When Lancome Advanced Genifique serum shows no change, fix the routine before the product. Check dose first (one full dropper load per application, on clean skin), then frequency (morning and evening, as labeled), then pairing, which mostly means one new active at a time alongside the serum. Formula comes last.
That order runs from free, reversible changes to ones that cost money. Switching formula means buying a new bottle while the fix may sit in the routine.
Changing one variable at a time takes longer than changing three at once, and it is the only way to know which change worked.
This sequence reflects Lancome’s instructions as verified in October 2026. Ingredient lists already differ between market versions, so recheck the box and the brand’s current copy whenever a new bottle replaces the old one.
