Discontinued — Limited Secondary Market Availability

The Silver Screen collection has been discontinued along with the wider Lipstick Queen range. The distinctive weighted silver tube with magnetic cap makes it easy to spot on eBay and Poshmark, where it surfaces occasionally, often at a premium. The most frequently sighted shades are Have Paris, Play It, and You Kid. We recommend the alternatives below as your best ongoing options.

Silver Screen was Lipstick Queen's second luxury collection at the $50 price point — the glossy, wet-look counterpart to the matte Velvet Rope. Where Velvet Rope used silicone elastomers to achieve its feather-light matte, Silver Screen used a high concentration of Pomegranate Sterols — a 100% natural active derived from pomegranate fruit — to create a wet-look, lip-lacquer finish while simultaneously improving lip barrier function and hydration.

Housed in a square weighted silver tube with a magnetised cap and a velvet-textured navy box, Silver Screen was immediately called out by Into the Gloss as best-in-packaging upon launch. Seven shades, each named after an iconic line from a classic movie, delivered full pigment coverage with a glossy silk finish that felt like a lip treatment. Peppermint Oil added a cooling, invigorating sensation on application, and Vitamins A and E kept lips nourished all day.

Hollywood Sassiness in a Silver Tube

Silver Screen launched in autumn 2014 as the glossy counterpart to 2013's Velvet Rope, and Poppy King's description of the collection set the tone precisely: "This intensely rich but wet formula, inspired by the slinky ladies of the silver screen, is a ground-breaking, industry-first. Silver Screen is a homage to Hollywood sassiness — if this lipstick could walk it would sashay. My most vixen lipstick to date."

The packaging was a complete departure from both the gold Velvet Rope tube and the rubber-coated Saint/Sinner cases. Silver Screen arrived in a square, weighted silver tube with vertical etchings and a magnetised cap that snapped shut with a satisfying click. The velvet-textured navy blue box it came in was voted best-in-packaging by Into the Gloss upon launch. Reviewers consistently noted that the act of applying Silver Screen — the heavy tube, the snap of the magnet, the burst of peppermint on contact — felt cinematic in itself.

The seven shades were each named after iconic lines from classic films: Come Up referenced Mae West's "Why don't you come up and see me sometime?", Play It invoked Casablanca's "Play it, Sam", See Me echoed "Look at me", Stella! was Marlon Brando's famous cry in A Streetcar Named Desire, Have Paris came from Casablanca's "We'll always have Paris", Made It referenced the gangster classic White Heat's "Top of the world, Ma!", and You Kid completed the set. The theme gave the collection a narrative coherence that no other lipstick range at the time could match.

All Seven Shades

Each shade in Silver Screen was named after an iconic line from a classic film — the palette as a whole covering the full dramatic spectrum from a soft baby pink to a deep blackened wine.

Come Up
A creamy, cool baby rose pink. The most pigmented shade in the collection — and the most universally flattering.
"Why don't you come up and see me sometime?" — Mae West
Play It
A glamorous hot fuchsia-pink with cool blue undertones. Bold yet glossy — wears like a lip stain.
"Play it, Sam." — Casablanca
See Me
A mid-toned peachy coral-orange cream. Warm and vibrant — flatters olive and medium skin tones beautifully.
"Look at me." — classic cinema
Have Paris
A classic pillar-box red. Bold and opaque — the most traditionally Hollywood shade in the collection.
"We'll always have Paris." — Casablanca
Stella!
A bold violet-purple with turquoise blue micro shimmer. The most adventurous shade — a true collector's piece.
"STELLAAA!" — A Streetcar Named Desire
Made It
A deep wine with aubergine undertones. The ultimate autumn lip — rich, dramatic, and deeply flattering.
"Top of the world, Ma!" — White Heat
You Kid
A universally flattering, slightly rosy medium nude. The everyday choice — polished, effortless, and never boring.
"Here's looking at you, kid." — Casablanca

Pomegranate Sterols — The Ingredient That Made Silver Screen

The defining innovation in Silver Screen was Punica Granatum (Pomegranate) Sterols — a 100% natural active derived from pomegranate fruit that Lipstick Queen positioned as a ground-breaking first for the colour cosmetics industry. Pomegranate Sterols are plant-derived ceramide analogues: they mimic the lipids found naturally in the skin barrier, improving the lip's ability to retain moisture and resist environmental damage. In practical terms, they produced the wet-look, high-gloss finish that defined Silver Screen's visual signature while simultaneously conditioning the lips underneath the colour.

The base formula paired Pomegranate Sterols with Castor Seed Oil as the primary emollient and slip agent, Polybutene for gloss and non-stickiness, and a wax complex of Candelilla and Beeswax that provided structure without heaviness. Unlike Velvet Rope's silicone elastomer base, Silver Screen's formula was oil-forward and visibly glossy — closer in feel to a luxury lip lacquer than a traditional lipstick.

Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Oil added the collection's sensorial signature: a cooling, invigorating sensation on first application, a clean fresh scent that dissipated quickly, and a subtle plumping effect. Vitamins A (Retinyl Palmitate) and E (Tocopherol and Tocopheryl Acetate) provided antioxidant protection and skin-conditioning benefits. Reviewers consistently rated Silver Screen superior in formula to both the Saint/Sinner lines and considered it comparable to the Velvet Rope in overall quality, despite the entirely different finish category.

How to Get the Best from Silver Screen

01
Line First

The wet-look formula has more slip than a traditional lipstick. Lipstick Queen recommended using the Invisible Lip Liner before application to prevent feathering or migration, especially with the more pigmented shades like Have Paris and Play It.

02
Apply from the Bullet

Apply directly from the bullet, starting at the centre of the lip and working outward. The formula is self-levelling and buildable — one pass gives medium-to-full coverage with the wet-look finish; two passes gives complete, opaque colour on bolder shades.

03
Blot for Longevity

For extended wear, blot once with a tissue after the first coat to set the pigment layer, then apply a second coat for the gloss effect. This dramatically extends wear time — 4–5 hours becomes 6–7 hours — while preserving the wet-look finish.

What Wearers Said

4.7

"This is by far the most elegant lipstick design I have ever seen — yes, even better than Tom Ford."

The silver tube is extraordinary. It is weighty and substantial, the cap snaps shut with a magnetic click that feels very deliberate and very glamorous. And the lipstick itself lives up to the packaging — Play It is a hot pink that I wore every day in autumn. The peppermint burst when you first apply it is genuinely invigorating. I bought two backups when I heard it was being discontinued.

"The formula is one of the best I have ever tried. It feels absolutely amazing on the lips."

I had tried a number of Lipstick Queen lipsticks before Silver Screen and they were good. But Silver Screen is in a different category. It glides on like nothing else — deeply moisturising but not sticky, fully pigmented but not heavy. You Kid is a flawless nude that I have been trying to find a replacement for ever since the brand discontinued. Still searching.

"I had two women come up to me within minutes of wearing Stella to ask what I was wearing. Genuinely rare."

Stella is a violet-purple with a flash of turquoise shimmer — the most adventurous shade in the collection and the most spectacular in the right light. It is not for everyone and I understand the mixed reviews. But on certain skin tones, in certain light, it is genuinely one of the most beautiful lip colours I have ever seen. If you are curious and cool-toned, try it. You may never come back.
